LEGISLATIVE MEETING FOR JUNE 2ND 2017
HEY AIESEC! HEY AIESEC!
Snap rolls for yet another BLOG POST release for the LM *snap roll sound picks in intensity here*… which was to hold on the 2nd of June, 2017 *snap rolls sound dulls out gradually*. “WAS?!” why was? Didn’t it hold? What was discussed? What happened? This Post will drum out all answers to your questions.
WHY “was”? …Did the LM no longer hold?
As is stated in the AIESEC compendium, for a Legislative meeting to hold there must be in attendance a number of full members of at least one-third the number of members in the Local Committee. In short, we need to show up for our Legislative meetings and all meetings for that matter. Come on guys, girls, dudes, “fashionistas”, gentlemen, ladies, all straight and bend-bend people of our dear LC, we all have a responsibility towards the development of our local committee and in retrospective perspective this development means we as individuals develop as well. With less than 30 members in attendance the LM could barely pass for a mere gathering of friends who wanted to gist about how thoroughly Real Madrid was going to whoop Juventus in the Champions League, or a bunch of random people from a class trying to organize tutorials. Highly un-remarkable for the various mantras that establish the core values of AIESEC and the ideal of “mankind’s true potential”. Our true potential as youth leaders cannot translate to lackluster performances and effort from us.
How do you think Learning in the real world works?
Note my use of “real world”. Learning in a practical setting involves being actively involved in decisions and motions that lead to progress and produce results. In AIESEC one way to truly become a boss at what you do is to learn to be involved long enough that you get to make all your own errors and learn from experience as you work with people more exposed than you are. Check out Kenny, you probably know him as the Haitian looking fellow with brown hair looking like God blessed him with naturally fine-tuned blondness. Did you know that Kenny learns on a daily basis as a result of his active involvement? Did you know people like Kenny are in your LC with barely TWO LC meeting attendances to their names? The world of exposure available to those ready to dive into the heart of work and learn as a result is limitless in terms of sheer possibilities. For some of us, AIESEC is a club or a social hub where you get to meet hot chicks and cool dudes with all manner of specifications but aside the flashing lights and the raving moments that constitute the hangouts and get-togethers there is more to being an AIESECer. Being an AIESECer means credibility; it means there should be an air of professionalism and accountability that resonates the moment you walk in a room. If you have been under a rock pretending to be a part of this LC, this is the time to be part of the action, Get in touch with the Project coordinators of our projects, get busy handling tasks, and be at meetings, VIST THE AIESEC HUB! (Don’t believe it actually exists? Just ask google “aies.ec” and see what the first link shows you…super easy) and dig in to find information that might be your stepping stone to a world beyond your initial thoughts.
Only by activating the leadership within us can we truly be said to be living and breathing as AIESECers. Praise is another fantastic example of an AIESECer that is taking charge of being part of the difference she wishes to see in the world. You also can be a super AIESEC story. Just having gone on exchange does in no way mean you can lounge and do nothing else you fall victim of being a spur of the moment that will leave a legacy that is easier to forget than one that has been built over days, weeks and months of working and growing with a team of like-minded individuals.
Take charge of how awesome you could be and watch how people, your friends, your parents, notice the difference in the wealth of experience you exude as they see a you they never knew you had in you.
Our best days are yet to come people.
God bless AIESEC LAGOS. God bless you reading this post.
