WeCare Project – Impacting schools in Bariga Week 1
Hey AIESEC!!!
As promised, we had an awareness visit to Wuraville
Secondary school last week. The WeCare project whose aims are to incite a
change in the world as regards drug abuse and to make AIESEC Lagos’ presence
felt in its immediate community (Bariga) hit both targets with the pinpoint accuracy
of an expert sharpshooter guys! (whoop whoop).

The whole agenda played out in two days. The kids were very
interesting and interested as well. Great powerful emotions were drawn out
during circle time,

beautiful smiles on the faces of the facilitators when they
realised the amount of influence they could have over the kids’ lives.

The
teachers were in awe and appreciation of these random students who seemed only
to love to shout “Hey AIESEC”, dance these their “roll calls” and talk in these
“weird abbreviations and hand signs” but later showed that they had more than
that upstairs.

And I was just there at the back feeling some typa way (mushy
sturvs). And when they got up together to thank us?!! (Gbemi teared up oh).
What Actually Happened...
Just to highlight what happened over the two days; 25th
January 2017 and 27th January 2017:
- The ever smiling and beautiful Aishat Akintelu anchored the first day’s event (a “newee” oh) . She handled Introduction of AIESEC to the students
- Then we had a relaxation game by Idy (that’s where we would see him). This is just to get them to feel more at ease.
- Then, to kick-start the strong feelings of the day an ex drug addict shared his experience with the kids. This really caught their attention and gave them a certain felling of seriousness.
- The real awareness creation of the day came from the video slides presented by Aishat. It was handled very well.
- Then the students got to ask questions and got answers to them.
- Then we had circle time with the kids. This was when we all broke out into groups and a facilitator handled a group of kids. This was just to foster closer relationship and to drive the message on a more personal level.
- Then we had the signing of the banner by the kids, photoshoot and refreshments. They were given some confectionaries and drinks. Aishat killed the punch btw (thumbs up!)
- Among all these, there were recreational times, dancing of roll calls, light games and selfie taking.

All in all, it was very well appreciated by the school and
the kids as well. This week, we storm Bishop Howells school and it promises to
be better than last week. AIESECer or not, If this appeals to you, do try to
participate or involve yourself in one way or the other. You never know what
can lead you to greatness, and you never know who you will be able to impact.
If you want to be involved, contact Kenny on his mobile: 08187591038.
Till next week,
Yours truly,
Mojola,
WeCare Team 16.17.
