VOICE OF THE YOUTH- Y4GG

You might have heard of the topics; Climate change, Global warming, Blah! Blah! What of the Paris Climate Agreement. You must have seen these topics flashing in your face and you might be like “oh boring!” Well then, its implications are evident even in the air we breathe.
As young people with 50% of the world’s population under 30, we contribute a lot to climate change. We study, drive, have cooling and heating needs, seek to smell nice and look good, and use smart gadgets, party all night… I know right. These, amongst other cool things we like to do to express ourselves, make us the largest consumers of energy on the planet.
The bulk of the energy we use today is gotten from unclean and non-renewable sources such as fossil fuels and this poses a lot of danger to the climate through greenhouse gas emissions. Even some cooling systems and propellants today still release CFCs which deplete the ozone layer which shield us from the intensity of the sun.
An example stated earlier, we love to drive. Owning a car seems cool. Well vehicular emissions such as particulate, hydro-carbon, CO2 and CO, nitrogen oxides are hugely responsible for the air quality deterioration. There are 22% of global GHG emissions from the transportation sector alone, and 42% from electricity and heating. It has also been reported that an increase in average global temperature will result in deaths of millions of people. And this should get us thinking. Like, “how can we go greener?
As young people, we want to live long and to the fullest. Therefore, we need to support climate change as it affects our existence.
