Legislative Meeting & Local Committee President Election 31st January 2016
Hey AIESEC! Hey AIESEC!! HEY AIESEC!!! ..... Say AIESEC.
It's good to be back people!! :)
I don't know about you all but I am feeling pumped and energetic(pls yomi, this does not mean more work oh). It's the start of a beautiful year and we are kicking off immediately. And AIESEC Lagos is not smiling, and I mean this literally. Somebody should guess who of the EB's faces indicated this fact to me. I'll give y'all a hint, C.E.O.
I got to the venue of the first meeting of the year all sweaty and winded-out from the stair climbing, which happened to be a Legislative meeting(LM). Some of us were dressed in the appropriate formal wear while others were... well I want to believe they tried their best :( The atmosphere was quite austere and formal. Our LC coach, miss Ester looking sharp and subtly eye-catching in her single-button jacket. (I'm assuming it's a button guys)

Now, we were all exchanging pleasantries at first, catching up and stuff. I was glad to see my old buddies again and enjoyed side talking during the "serious and professional LM" (Ha! can't get punished now). You should have seen everybody's face as Esther and our very own Local Committee President, Rachel Bassey, (looking sassy in yellow) lectured us about the rules and practices of an LM. Our faces seemed to say "what??". The sharp and sarcastic tension was was ironically was hilarious to say the least. I mean with the purple notepad serving as my voter's card and with Olumide looking like he's not about to hear stories about how you lost your teller -__- Olumide who for all his fresh suit and contacts was just a dignified version of our guys in green and white on the main road, collecting his dues :)
Don't get me wrong, it was good Knowledge and all, but man the house and chair sure get a lot of respect from people that want to say anything, they are mentioned everytime! I mean, shouldn't there be a shorter way to introduce yourself? This will go a long way to help people like my guy, Miracle Chukwu. It was torture for the poor guy :(
Hem??... Is it chair in the house or chair on the floor? |
Someone should look at Olumide Abejide's Face please. The whole formal atmosphere must have gotten to Sekina. Her nice face with chubby cheeks scrunching up innocently to keep up with all the terms
The setting was quite filled with different interesting stuff, and If I go into all details I will never get to the main topic of today which is the Legislative meeting and LCP elections which took place on 31st January 2016. So, as a disclaimer to those who missed the meeting, you're never going to get a breakdown of the meeting blow by blow. I'm here to merely comment and give a brief summary. Next time, do not miss :)
- So, firstly the LM kicked off by 3:30pm and the chair Ester was voted and motions were read out, spoken about, voten upon, carried or rejected. Some thought-provoking motions were deliberated upon and I learnt a thing or two about AIESEC Lagos Compendium.
- Not too long after, LCP elections kicked off and I must say, I want to commend the two applicants for taking this exceptionally distinctive and bold step.
- We had Idara Ntewo, a long time member of AIESEC Lagos who has had enough time with AIESEC Lagos to know a few more things than the regular AIESEC member. He also has had experience of AIESEC Lagos and the "good old days". From his speech and manner of approach to questions posed to him, It's obvious we have someone with passion driven from reminiscence. We have a confident and zealous individual who has great sights and dreams for AIESEC Lagos. On another equal hand, we have Ugochukwu Modum, proper personification of the term "can do anything". This guy feels no limit and his story of his life with AIESEC is one of "Love at first sight". It is obvious as he vividly retells his story of how he met with AIESEC, his love. An experienced Vice-President of the OGX Functional Area.
- The two made their pitch and answered questions that were thrown to them confidently. I very much respected their confidence level. I could only imagine their level of nervousness as the votes were counted.
- Finally, It was announced Ugochukwu Modum had won the election and was on the spot declared the Local Committee President elect of the 16/17 term. Idara showed a matured side of him with a spirit of good sportsmanship as he congratulated Ugo.
- His current EB rejoice with him as he is welcomed customarily with hydro baptism. It was a fair contest but we can only vote one man. Congratulations to you Ugo as the LCP elect of the 16/17 term. I wish you the very best.
News and Updates in the LC:
- Not much for now people. Just be aware there's another Legislative meeting coming up next Friday. Venue will be announced. I'm saying this early for those who claimed to be informed too late last week. Please guys, I know it seems like B.S when the EB emphasizes on things like corporate dressing and stuff, but trust me, the discipline has to come from someone and it's not easy being the one who appears "like a bad person" or the one who gets to be disliked. I want to believe they don't exactly enjoy having to appear mean, it's just the way it is. (not too sure if it relates, but) Someone has to do the dirty work and mine the diamond which gets to be beautiful after processing. You will always have more fun than you anticipate. I honestly did. I want to confess I thought We'd have one or two people overstepping the "professsional line", but it turned out to be fine.
- Also we'd be having Item 7 at the upcoming LM!!! Someone wrote a motion to pass that in the last LM :) Please people, I didn't see enough of my favorite faces in the last meeting. I miss you guys. Hope to see you next meeting.
Sorry for the verbose post, welcome to a new semester.
Its yours truly.
