Happy Independence Day!
Hey AIESEC!
Happy Independence Day!
It's 53 years already! The Giant of Africa is 53! Already?! Wow, time runs so fast (see me talking like I was the one that went to announce our independence to the President.. LOL). We thank God for seeing us through these many rough years. We couldn't have made it on our own.
But at 53, we still have a lot of problems to address in this country. So many sectors still need help. There's Boko Haram to worry about, amongst other things. Let's concentrate on the educational sector that concerns most of us. The Federal Government and ASUU have been conflicting for the past 100 days, having endless meetings concerning the on-going strike. Still, nothing seems to come out of their never-ending meetings. It's either they're vowing to continue or vowing to continue! But we need not wonder about the Government's attitude towards the strike. Most of these our leaders have their children studying abroad, so they can't be bothered. Imagine being out of school for 3months, one full semester! Just because our leaders are not ready to listen to the plight of our lecturers. The common man's children are left to suffer and hope for a better tomorrow. The Lord will take us there. Hopefully, this 'tomorrow' will come someday.
Things need to change in this country. It starts from you and I, as individuals and as AIESECers. We need to see Nigeria as our own, because whether we like it or not, Nigeria is a part of our DNA. We can't change that fact. So why waste time complaining, when we can use this time to think up ways to make Nigeria a better place to live in. Nigeria is a land of various opportunities. All we need to do is identify these opportunities and make good use of them. It is a popular saying that 'A Fool at Forty is a Fool Forever'. This shouldn't be the case of Nigeria, because we are way past 40. Nigeria is 53! We Can Make This Work. We are the hope of Nigeria. The Future of our country is in our hands.
Let us take time to individually reflect on our country and her
achievements over the years. There are so many things to be happy about and to thank God for. Come to think of it, we have a lovely National Anthem...
Oh God of creation, direct our noble cause;
Guide our leaders right;
Help our Youth the truth to know
In love and honesty to grow
And living just and true
Great lofty heights attain
To build a nation where peace and justice reign.

Arise, O compatriots, Nigeria’s call obey
To serve our fatherland
With love and strength and faith
The labour of our heroes past
Shall never be in vain
To serve with heart and might
One nation bound in freedom, peace and unity.

God bless Nigerians
